Advocacy & Support for Nurses
Adequate training is essential for nurses to perform their duties safely and effectively. Sarah, a dedicated nurse and NPANZ member, found herself in a challenging situation at a retirement home where she was not receiving proper training.
Despite being employed as a qualified nurse, Sarah was not being adequately trained for her role at the retirement home facility. This lack of proper training, combined with understaffing issues, created an environment where patient safety incidents became inevitable.
When a patient safety incident occurred as a result of these systemic workplace issues, Sarah recognised she needed professional support and contacted NPANZ for assistance.
Sarah's assigned case manager thoroughly reviewed the circumstances surrounding her employment and the incident. Our case manager was able to demonstrate that the situation arose from the employer's failure to provide adequate training and appropriate staffing levels.
Through skilled negotiation, NPANZ successfully advocated on Sarah's behalf, securing a resolution that included several weeks' pay and her resignation from the position. This outcome allowed Sarah to move on from the unsafe working environment with financial support.
How is the NPANZ so effective in defending members during workplace issues and disputes? Our experienced and professional case managers use our unique RED™ case resolution system.
Why is the NPANZ different? We believe that real change in healthcare STARTS with empowering frontline nurses, not bureaucrats.
