Joining FAQ's

Why join NPANZ?

In addition to our competitive rates and comparable indemnity insurance, our support teams have extensive experience assisting with workplace issues from rostering through to disciplinary processes.  Our legal team and professional advisors aim to solve issues as quickly as possible in a manner that keeps our members safe, connected and supported.

Can I Join Now?

Yes! There is no reason why you can’t join now.

As stated in the Employment Relations Act Section 58, joining a union is voluntary so it’s up to you if you decide to join for the first time or change unions. There are some caveats around leaving before the 60th day of the expiry date of MECA’s and some unions enforce this rule. We believe choice is paramount and would support members if an old union tried to prevent you from joining NPANZ.

Will I get my Pay Equity Back Pay?

Yes.

The claim follows the individual and once the process is settled you will be entitled to any benefits. NPANZ will not leave its members out of pocket for joining⃰. Your right to competitive service should not be hamstrung by the poor stewardship of a process that has taken way longer than it should have.

Will my terms and conditions be affected by changing unions?

Your terms and conditions should not be affected. If you are currently with another union, then changing to NPANZ will mean a move from a collective agreement to an individual agreement. Individual agreements traditionally match the collective agreements.

Will NPANZ negotiate collective agreements?

Yes. NPANZ is a registered trade union and can negotiate on behalf of its members. If there is one other NPANZ member in your workplace (obviously the more the merrier!), then we can negotiate a collective agreement on your behalf.

Once you’ve joined NPANZ

Contact your current union/indemnity insurance provider and cancel your membership in writing (an email is enough).

If you have existing payroll deductions, you will need to cancel these.

If you want to be part of a movement that brings the heart back to nursing, as well as providing quality professional services and insurance, join NPANZ today!

Whilst NPANZ is prepared to appeal against discrimination that may arise, members are advised that any outcome from the pay equity case currently before the Employment Relations Authority is unpredictable.
